Austin family papers, 1844-1897 (bulk 1861-1865).

Correspondence from family members to Austin in Clifty, Indianapolis, Hope, and Danville, Ind. Civil War letters are from men serving in the 5th Indiana Cavalry in Kentucky and Tennessee, including Austin's brother Alfred who died in Andersonville Prison. The remaining letters are of a personal nature and include a letter asking permission to marry his daughter. Other papers include the purchase of plots at Crown Hill Cemetery in Indianapolis, and Alfred Austin's estate. An unidentified family album is stored in Visual Collections.
